getting ready for the tube rescue race

in the rip to take the lead of the race!!

Go Daddy!!

Daddy's winning the whole race!!
He's catching the fastest rip!! way out ahead...Go DADDY.. GO DADDY!

Ive gotta find that rip past all those challenging waves....

it was another great day at the races in our beautiful Pacific back yard.... we all were practicing the course warming up in the ocean swimming, board paddling, rowboating and the ski paddling ( on the surf kayaks) hours before the race started.. there was a friendly enthusiasm and excitement among all the club competitors from up and down the 36 kilometers of gorgeous beaches!

swimming to the right and taking that winning wave!

it is the Gold Coast Titles this weekend... the masters (old people) surf events were today and the junior events will be tomorrow...
I came in 2nd in the surf swim for the 50-54 age group ( I missed the cutoffs for my age group since my birthday was two months too late)  and 3rd in the tube rescue race
The surf has been such a great metaphor for finding the best plan for life's perfect race...
!

we have a limited time to beat our competitors in the race of life..

while 20 or so racers lined up and sprinted directly into the sea
I had a plan to sprint past the red inflatable IRB boat, just a little to the right of the rip...
when I take that rip it will jet stream past all the challenging waves my opponents had to face...
i was wushed past all of them
and for the longest time I was ahead of everyone taking the river of flowing water rushing out to sea...
and the path was there...if I had swam back towards my home, I would have possibly taken that winning wave!
instead I came back the other way to see the far faster swimmer pass by me just before he ended up coasting into victory....
I took a wave but I was tired ,
so it tumbled me instead of catching it and coasting to victory (at least in my age group)
 my competitors took
so I came in second in my age group (50-54)
and 4th overall!
beating many locally famous surf swimmers of the coast...
ahh the congrats from my  colleagues of the club...
was giving me those warm fuzzies I used to have when I won in the team sports of my youthful past...
ahh sweetness..
